Fresh military exchanges between the US and Iran have raised fears of a renewed escalation in the Gulf.
The United States and Iran traded strikes in the Gulf region as tensions continued to test a fragile ceasefire between the two countries.
The US military said it intercepted four Iranian attack drones near the Strait of Hormuz and later struck Iranian coastal radar sites it claimed posed a threat to maritime traffic. Iran responded by launching ballistic missiles at US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain.
According to US Central Command, six of the seven missiles fired by Iran were intercepted. The exempted one failed to reach its target. Iranian state media said the attacks were carried out in retaliation for recent US military actions against Iranian assets.
The latest exchange comes days after both countries carried out strikes that threatened the ceasefire agreed in April. Diplomatic efforts to reach a broader peace deal have also stalled, with both sides accusing each other of changing positions.
The conflict has already disrupted regional security and global energy markets, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz.
With ceasefire talks struggling to progress, the latest US and Iran exchange highlights the growing risk of a wider confrontation.
