The United States has carried out another round of military strikes against Iran, intensifying the conflict.
The US military said the latest attacks were aimed at further weakening Iran’s ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump also vowed retaliation following the deaths of three American service members.
US Central Command (Centcom) said the operation targeted Iranian “military command centres, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems.”
Trump Promises Retaliation
Earlier, President Trump said Iran had been hit “very hard” the previous night “in honour” of the three US soldiers recently killed during attacks in Jordan and Iraq.
The latest strikes come after the Pentagon confirmed the identities of two soldiers killed in an Iranian strike on the Muwaffaq Salti base in Jordan: Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Texas, and Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Hawaii. A third service member remains unaccounted for after unidentified remains were discovered near the attack site.
Iran Claims Counterattacks
Iran said it responded by striking two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. It also targeted US military assets in Bahrain and Kuwait, according to state news agency IRNA.
President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that Iran was now fighting a “full-scale war” with the United States.
Despite the escalating military confrontation, Iranian officials said diplomatic messages continued to be exchanged through intermediaries. This follows the collapse of a temporary ceasefire.
Shipping and Regional Tensions
Centcom said commercial shipping was continuing through the Strait of Hormuz despite the conflict.
However, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a tanker had been struck by an unidentified projectile. The strike forced its crew to abandon the vessel.
Elsewhere, Jordan said it intercepted three Iranian missiles, while Kuwait reported shooting down Iranian drones. Bahrain also said Iranian drones targeted its air navigation systems, though flight operations remained unaffected.
Iranian media reported that several cities, including Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak, Bandar Mahshahr and Bandar Imam Khomeini, were struck during the latest US attacks.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed two oil tankers exploded while navigating what it described as an “unsafe and hazardous southern route” through the Strait of Hormuz. This claim was disputed by the US military.
