Fatalities confirmed after chemical tank rupture at Washington facility

Several people were killed and injured after a hazardous materials incident at an industrial plant in Washington state.

Authorities in Washington have confirmed fatalities following a chemical tank rupture at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging facility in Longview.

The incident happened Tuesday morning when a tank containing white liquor — a chemical used in paper production — ruptured at the industrial site. Emergency crews responded to what officials described as a hazardous materials incident.

Several workers suffered injuries, including chemical burns and traumatic wounds, and were taken to hospitals across the region. Officials said the number of victims was in the double digits, while at least one death has already been confirmed.

Authorities said there is currently no immediate threat to the public, though residents were advised to avoid the area as recovery and investigation efforts continue.

The Longview facility, located near the Columbia River, operates as a pulp, paper and liquid packaging plant.
