Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that his children supported Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election.
Wike made the disclosure during an interview on TVC News on Monday. He linked their decision to the controversy over the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket. According to him, religion played a major role in the 2023 campaign.
“In 2023, there was a problem with the Muslim-Muslim ticket. There was this campaign about Christianity,” Wike said.
He added,
“All my children supported Peter Obi.”
The former Rivers State governor said some people later changed their views about Obi. He claimed his children now tell him,
“Daddy, we didn’t know this man was like this.”
The FCT minister also argued that the political situation has changed since 2023. He said the Muslim-Muslim ticket no longer carries the same political weight.
“There are a lot of people who were carried away, but that is no longer there now,” he said.
Wike added that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has changed the conversation around the issue.
“Tinubu has been able to kill the Muslim-Muslim ticket problem,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Wike questioned Peter Obi’s chances in the 2027 presidential election. He argued that Obi no longer enjoys the same level of support he had in 2023. He also said the political conditions that helped Obi have changed.
His comments come as political parties and politicians prepare for another major election cycle.
