The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 101-year-old woman, identified as Ogunmabo, for alleged cannabis possession in Ogun State.
NDLEA operatives arrested Ogunmabo on August 15, 2026, after finding 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, in her possession. Following her arrest, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), directed officials to grant the elderly woman bail and provide counselling because of her advanced age. The agency later arrested her daughter.
NDLEA intercepts cocaine concealed in fufu
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted containers allegedly used to transport illicit drugs through Nigeria’s maritime corridor. The agency said traffickers shipped the containers from Thailand. The seizure marked the NDLEA’s first recovery of illicit drugs shipped from Thailand through the route.
One of the containers carried dry fish, rice, vehicle spare parts, turmeric soap and inverter batteries, according to its declaration. However, NDLEA operatives allegedly discovered cocaine concealed inside a large wrap of edible cassava fufu. The operation led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of about 42.622 kilogrammes of illicit drugs.
NDLEA highlights traffickers’ methods
The latest operations highlight the different methods drug traffickers allegedly use to move illicit substances. By concealing drugs among food items and other legitimate goods, traffickers attempt to evade detection during transportation. The NDLEA said its operatives would continue to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent illicit substances from entering and circulating within the country.
