A member of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has dismissed the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The APC lawmaker argued that both opposition figures lack the political structure needed to challenge the ruling party, insisting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains firmly positioned ahead of the next general election.
Gagdi Questions Opposition’s Electoral Strength
Speaking during a televised interview, Gagdi maintained that Tinubu and the APC are actively preparing for the 2027 elections, unlike the opposition, which he believes has failed to build a formidable political network.
According to him, both Atiku and Obi have previously contested presidential elections without success, adding that they have not demonstrated the grassroots support required to defeat the ruling party.
“You think Bola Tinubu and the APC are not trying to win elections in 2027? Atiku and Obi have always been defeated,” he said.

Gagdi also referenced his political experience in Plateau State, claiming Peter Obi failed to secure victories in the Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam areas during previous elections.
He said his own victory in the 2023 National Assembly election by a margin of about 31,000 votes reflected the APC’s strong political base in his constituency.
The lawmaker argued that such electoral performances demonstrate the party’s established structures across different parts of the country.
Calls for Unity Against Insecurity
Beyond electoral politics, Gagdi accused some opposition politicians of using Nigeria’s security challenges for political gains instead of supporting efforts to tackle insecurity.
He urged political leaders to put national interest first and unite against terrorism rather than exploiting the country’s security situation for partisan purposes.
“We must collectively be patriotic. We must be united against terror,” he stated.
While acknowledging that insecurity remains a major concern, Gagdi said the Tinubu administration deserves recognition for the measures it has taken to address the challenge.
