Military Deployment Will Halt Attacks, Restore Peace in Kwara — Gov AbdulRahman

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq visited President Bola Tinubu in Abuja. He briefed the leader on recent attacks in Kaiama Local Government Area. The governor expressed gratitude for swift federal action.

Attack Details

Suspected bandits struck Woro and Nuku communities on Tuesday evening. They killed over 100 people, including women and children. Additionally the assault injured many others and displaced residents.

The death toll rose to 102. Emir of Kaiama Omar Muazu confirmed 75 victims received mass burials under Islamic rites. Furthermore security forces combed forests for fleeing attackers.

Military Response

President Tinubu approved Operation Savannah Shield. This initiative deployed an army battalion to the area. Troops, alongside forest guards, secured the communities to prevent further violence.

Governor AbdulRazaq stated, “This will go a long way in deterring attacks and restoring calm to the region.” He added, “The President has directed the armed forces to move in to clean up the place and make sure peace and calm are restored.”

Governor’s Condemnation

Governor AbdulRazaq condemned the killings as a desperate terrorist act. He noted it distracted security amid counter-terrorism efforts. Moreover he assured residents of the government commitment to safety.

The governor visited affected areas with security chiefs. He addressed communities and commiserated with families. He said, “The bandits have murdered sleep, and they shall be met with full force.”

Broader Reactions

Senator Saliu Mustapha urged more troop deployments. He described the attack as a tragic reminder for vigilance. Additionally former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso called for decisive military action.

The incidents echoed prior attacks in Eruku. There, militants targeted a church, prompting similar responses. Efforts focused on stabilizing Kwara’s vulnerable regions.
