Defence Minister Calls for Unity to Tackle Nigeria’s Security Problems

General Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence, stressed national unity as a key solution to Nigeria’s security issues. He made this statement during various addresses in late 2025 and early 2026. Musa highlighted that no single entity could tackle the challenges alone.

Moreover he warned that criminals gained strength when communities accepted them. “When we put our hands together, there is no force we cannot overcome,” Musa said at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Research and Development Gala in January 2026.

Emphasis on Collaboration

Musa urged synergy between the Ministries of Defence and Interior. He asserted that this partnership was critical for national security and development. The minister explained that the ministries handled external and internal security, forming two sides of the same coin.

Additionally, he called for intelligence sharing and joint operations among security agencies. “The reality remains that no single service, institution or individual can address today’s security challenges alone,” Musa stated during a December 2025 event. Success depended on coordinated planning, he added.

Border Management and Technology

The minister focused on enhanced border management to ensure peace and stability. He emphasized sustained collaboration among the Armed Forces, Immigration Service, and other agencies. Musa noted that technology for real-time awareness was a priority.

Furthermore, he reaffirmed commitment to work with stakeholders for a unified security architecture. “Sustainable security is not achieved by force alone. Intelligence fusion, coordination and technology must work together with governance and development,” Musa told the Senate in February 2026.

Community Involvement

Musa met with Chioma Nweze, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the South-East, to discuss regional security. They sought stronger community driven frameworks to counter threats in the area.

In addition, he urged Nigerians to embrace collective responsibility. Musa expressed optimism about the nation’s future through kinetic and non-kinetic measures.

Decisive Action Required

The minister called for decisive action against threats. He encouraged security agencies to maintain unity and collaborate with stakeholders. Musa highlighted the importance of denying sanctuary to criminals. In conclusion, his messages reinforced the need for joint efforts to build public confidence and stability.
