NYC Mayor Mamdani Meets President Trump at White House to Discuss Housing

Housing Proposal Details

Mamdani pitched a significant housing project to Trump. The plan aimed to secure one of the largest federal investments in housing over the past 50 years. It included a 12,000-unit affordable housing development. To illustrate potential impact, Mamdani presented a mock newspaper front page.

Joe Calvello, Mamdani’s press secretary, explained the approach. Calvello stated: “The mayor took him up on this offer and returned to D.C. today with a pitch about a possible project in New York City that could deliver one of the biggest federal investments in housing of the past 50 years.”

Mamdani described the meeting positively on X. He posted: “I had a productive meeting with President Trump this afternoon. I’m looking forward to building more housing in New York City.”

Anna Bahr, Mamdani’s communications director, noted Trump’s response. Bahr said: “Trump was very enthusiastic about it.” Furthermore, she mentioned the mock front page aimed to show public reception.

The discussion built on their November meeting. Trump had encouraged Mamdani to propose big projects. Despite past criticisms, where Trump called Mamdani a communist, their relationship remained cordial. As a result, the talks highlighted potential collaboration on urban development.
