The Government of Ghana announced on March 15, 2026, that it would undertake an emergency evacuation exercise for all Ghanaian nationals residing in Qatar. The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Qatar issued a statement indicating that the decision followed an earlier notice dated March 6, 2026, regarding the evolving security situation in the Middle East region.
“The Government of the Republic of Ghana has decided to undertake an emergency evacuation exercise in Qatar in the wake of the heightened security situation in the region,” the embassy stated. Furthermore, the mission emphasized that “this arrangement is strictly a one-way evacuation exercise to Ghana.”
Registration Requirements
The embassy requested that all Ghanaians in Qatar who wished to be evacuated submit specific documentation to facilitate the process. Interested nationals were required to reconfirm their interest by submitting the biodata pages of their passports via email to doha@mfa.gov.gh. The deadline for submission was set for Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Consequently, officials urged citizens to act promptly to ensure their inclusion in the evacuation arrangements.
Regional Context
The evacuation decision came amid heightened tensions across parts of the Middle East. Security developments in the region prompted several countries to review contingency plans for their citizens abroad. The Ghanaian government positioned the exercise as a precautionary measure designed to ensure the safety of its nationals in the Gulf state.
Moreover, officials indicated that they would continue monitoring developments in the region as the evacuation process moved forward.
