The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it will go ahead with its planned congresses and convention despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) withdrawing recognition of the David Mark-led national working committee (NWC).
INEC had on Tuesday announced it would no longer recognise the Mark-led leadership pending the determination of court cases involving the party.
Reacting on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC spokesperson, accused the electoral body of creating confusion ahead of the 2027 general election.
He said the party had already notified INEC of its activities and would not halt its internal processes.
“We have given INEC 21 days’ notice. They have acknowledged it. Whether they come or not, we will continue with our congresses and our convention,” he said.
The spokesperson alleged that recent actions by INEC, including the proposed voter revalidation exercise, could destabilise the electoral process.
“Now you are asking Nigerians who already have voter cards to go back and revalidate them close to an election. That can only lead to chaos,” he said.
Abdullahi argued that such developments raise concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.
“All these point to attempts to create confusion. And chaos can only benefit one party,” he added.
The ADC maintained that it would not be deterred, insisting that Nigerians can see what is unfolding in the political space.
“We can see our democracy unravelling before our very eyes. This should concern everyone,” he said.
