The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the party is responsible for its internal crisis.
The ADC had accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of acting under pressure from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in its decision to discontinue recognition of the David Mark-led national working committee (NWC)
In a statement on Thursday, Felix Morka, national publicity secretary of the APC, dismissed allegations that the ruling party is working to destabilise the ADC.
He described the opposition party as disorganised and prone to conspiracy theories.
“The ADC has distinguished itself as a peddler of conspiracy theories about what the APC is or is not doing,” he said.
Morka said the crisis within the ADC was self-inflicted, accusing its leadership of violating internal rules.
He alleged that the David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola-led faction took control of the party in disregard of its constitution and due process.
According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) acted within the law by withdrawing recognition of the faction.
“INEC’s decision is valid in law, justified in fact, and consistent with democratic practice,” he said.
Morka said the ADC should take responsibility for its challenges instead of blaming the APC.
“It is irresponsible for the ADC to blame others for problems of which they are the sole architects,” he said.
He added that the party’s internal disarray raises questions about its capacity to govern.
“A party that cannot fix itself cannot fix Nigeria,” he said.
Morka said the APC remains focused on governance and delivering on its policies.
He added that the administration of President Bola Tinubu will continue to strengthen democratic institutions and promote national development.
