The Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has granted bail in the sum of N200 million to Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna state, over allegations of money laundering and fraud.
Rilwani Aikawa, the presiding judge, granted the bail on Tuesday.
El-Rufai was arraigned on March 24 by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) alongside Joel Adoga on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering and fraud.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
In his ruling, Aikawa granted el-Rufai bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties.
The court ruled that one of the sureties must provide a certificate of occupancy for a landed property, while the other must be a respected elder in Kaduna state, to be verified by the Kaduna State Council of Elders.
As part of the bail conditions, the court also restrained el-Rufai and his counsel from granting media interviews on the case pending the conclusion of the trial.
The judge further ordered the former governor to report to the ICPC on the first day of every month and deposit his international passport with the court.
The case was subsequently adjourned for the continuation of the trial.
