The Industrial Training Fund (ITF), in partnership with the Cement Technology Institute of Nigeria (CTIN). Has unveiled a major plan to train 100,000 artisans across Nigeria in a bid to tackle the country’s growing construction challenges.
The programme, set to launch on April 21, 2026, at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, will bring together top government officials and key industry players.
Designed to run in phases nationwide, the initiative will train artisans in critical construction trades such as masonry, carpentry, tiling, electrical installation, plumbing, and Plaster of Paris (PoP).

According to ITF, the goal is to equip workers with modern, industry-relevant skills. That improve productivity, employability, and overall construction quality in Nigeria.
Tackling Building Collapse and Poor Workmanship
The initiative comes at a time when Nigeria continues to face frequent building collapses. Often linked to poor workmanship, lack of proper training, and substandard construction practices.
ITF Director-General, Dr. Afiz Ogun, described the programme as a strategic intervention to bridge the widening skills gap in the construction sector. He noted that the partnership with CTIN will expose artisans to modern techniques, standardised practices, and certification opportunities.
The training will also strengthen ITF’s Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) programme, improving participants’ earning potential. And positioning them for better job opportunities within the construction value chain.
Industry leaders, including representatives from major cement and construction firms, are expected at the launch, highlighting the programme’s national importance.
Ultimately, the initiative is expected to raise construction standards, reduce building failures, and restore public confidence in Nigeria’s infrastructure sector.
