Chelsea sack Liam Rosenior after Brighton defeat as poor form

Chelsea have dismissed Liam Rosenior after a sharp decline in results ended with a heavy loss to Brighton.

Chelsea have sacked head coach Liam Rosenior following the club’s 3-0 Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Rosenior arrived in January and made an encouraging start. Chelsea won eight of his first 11 matches, with only defeats to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final during that opening run.

Because of a packed fixture schedule, Rosenior initially avoided major tactical changes. He praised the foundations left by former coach Enzo Maresca and focused on stability.

However, once Chelsea had more time on the training ground, performances worsened. Since a win over Hull in February, the Blues managed only three victories in 12 matches, with two wins coming against lower-league opposition.

Chelsea’s attacking struggles became a major issue. The team failed to score in six of their last seven games in all competitions. Their only recent high-scoring result was a 7-0 FA Cup win over Port Vale.

The defeat at Brighton proved the final blow. Chelsea looked flat, lacked intensity, and rarely threatened in attack. Rosenior himself had described the display as “indefensible” after the match.

The club’s broader squad issues also remain under scrutiny, with questions around recruitment, leadership, and experience in the dressing room.

Chelsea now begin the search for another manager as they try to rescue a disappointing season and rebuild confidence quickly.
