Liverpool star Hugo Ekitike undergoes achilles surgery

Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike has undergone surgery after suffering a major Achilles injury.

Hugo Ekitike underwent surgery in London last week after rupturing his Achilles tendon during Liverpool FC’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Reports say the procedure was supervised by the same surgeon who handled Jayson Tatum’s successful Achilles operation last year.

Ekitike was forced off around 30 minutes into Liverpool’s quarter-final second-leg match at Anfield earlier this month. The seriousness of the injury was immediately clear, and the club later confirmed a ruptured Achilles.

The setback rules the French forward out for the rest of the season, the upcoming World Cup, and likely the opening months of next season.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot described the injury as devastating for a player who had recently joined the club and started making an impact.

Slot said Ekitike now faces the challenge many top athletes have overcome — returning stronger after a long rehabilitation.

The injury leaves Alexander Isak as Liverpool’s only natural senior striker, although he is also recovering from a recent broken leg.

Despite concerns over squad depth, reports suggest Liverpool are not expected to sign a short-term replacement during the transfer window.

Ekitike’s recovery will now be closely watched as Liverpool hope one of their key attacking players can make a strong return next season.
