Bayern opened the scoring through Harry Kane from the penalty spot, but PSG responded quickly with goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Joao Neves.
The visitors levelled through Michael Olise before PSG regained the lead when Ousmane Dembele converted a late first-half penalty.
After the break, Kvaratskhelia and Dembele struck again to give the holders a three-goal cushion. Bayern fought back through Dayot Upamecano and Luis Diaz to keep the tie alive.
The second leg in Munich now promises another blockbuster showdown.
PSG hold the advantage, but Bayern remain firmly in contention.
