Speculation swirled that Musk’s stopover was part of a longer trip—possibly en route to a private retreat near Bella Coola owned by James Murdoch, Tesla board member and son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Meanwhile, British Columbia’s government excluded Tesla models from its EV rebate program amid escalating political friction.
Despite any politics, Bella Bella was abuzz with gossip and excitement: “No secret landings here,” Carter laughed. “His jet landed, the helicopter waited—no sneaking in unnoticed.” Locals savored every moment of Musk’s brief presence, photos and chatter fueling lively debate across town.
