Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, says he is open to working with any political actor committed to improving the welfare of Nigerians.
Speaking in an interview with Noire TV, Obi said he is more concerned about the current state of the country than the next election cycle.
“I’m not preoccupied about the next election. I’m preoccupied with how the average Nigerian lives today,” he said.
Obi said the focus should be on addressing insecurity and improving living conditions.
“How do we provide security to the average Nigerian?” he asked.
On possible alliances with other opposition figures, Obi said he is willing to collaborate, but only on the basis of public interest.
“I’m prepared to work with anybody who is talking about the care of the people,” he said.
He, however, warned against political coalitions driven by personal ambition.
“I don’t want a combination for power capture or state capture. I want a combination that will allow us to care for the people,” he said.
