Tinubu appoints 39-year-old professor Segun Aina as new JAMB registrar

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Segun Aina, professor of computer engineering, as the new registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

In a statement issued on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, the presidency said Aina will succeed Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term expires on July 31, 2026.

According to the statement, Aina, who turns 40 in July, is one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of computer engineering and will become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.

The presidency described him as an academic and systems expert with experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public-sector reform.

Aina studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Kent before obtaining a master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

The statement said Aina began his relationship with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained experience in admissions and institutional data systems.

He is currently a professor of computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University.

According to the presidency, Aina has worked as a consultant for examination bodies including National Examinations Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), advising on ICT systems, examination integrity and digital reforms.

He is also a member of professional bodies including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

The presidency said Tinubu expects Aina to build on the reforms and achievements recorded under Oloyede’s administration at JAMB.
