Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has called for fairness and due process in the handling of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who remains in the custody of the Department of State Services.
Frank made the appeal in a statement issued on Friday.
Frank Backs Rule of Law
The former APC spokesman urged authorities to protect El-Rufai’s rights and allow him enough time to prepare his defence.
According to Frank, the former governor voluntarily returned to Nigeria from Egypt and presented himself to security agencies.
He maintained that anti-corruption efforts must follow the rule of law.
“For the umpteenth time, I reiterate my support for the fight against corruption. However, fairness, justice, rule of law, and due process must never be sacrificed under any circumstance,” Frank said.
Call for Intervention
Frank appealed to northern leaders, youths, civil society organisations, and the international community to monitor the situation surrounding El-Rufai’s detention.
He urged stakeholders to demand the former governor’s release so he could adequately prepare for his defence.
“I pray that northern elders and youths will not sit back and watch anything untoward happen to Mallam El-Rufai,” he stated.
Frank also called on the Nigerian Bar Association, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and well-meaning Nigerians to follow developments closely.
“I therefore call on the Nigerian Bar Association, religious leaders, northern elders, traditional rulers, northern youths, civil society organisations, well-meaning Nigerians, and the international community to urgently demand his immediate release,” he added.
El-Rufai Remains Key Political Figure
Frank described El-Rufai as a prominent political figure who played a major role during the 2023 general elections.
He advised Nigerians to pay close attention to developments involving the former Kaduna governor.
The former APC spokesman also urged security agencies to act professionally and transparently while handling the matter.
He stressed that justice, accountability, and due process should guide every action taken against El-Rufai.
El-Rufai has remained one of Nigeria’s influential political figures following his tenure as governor of Kaduna State and his involvement in national politics.
