Abducted Oyo Students, Teachers Yet to Regain Freedom — Police

The Oyo State Police Command has denied reports claiming security operatives rescued students, pupils, and teachers kidnapped during an attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area.

Gunmen attacked the schools last Friday and abducted several victims.

Police Confirm Victims Remain in Captivity

Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed on Friday that the victims still remain in captivity.

He said security agencies have intensified rescue operations to secure their freedom and arrest the attackers.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Orire Local Government Area are yet to regain freedom,” Olayinka stated.

He stressed that viral reports claiming the victims had regained freedom were false.

Command Warns Against Fake News

The police urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information online.

According to the command, fake reports create panic and distract security personnel from ongoing rescue operations.

“The Command hereby debunks the rumour currently circulating that the victims have been rescued,” the statement added.

Olayinka urged residents to verify every piece of information before sharing it on social media or other platforms.

Rescue Operations Continue

The police said a joint security team continues to search for the victims across affected areas.

Olayinka assured residents that authorities would provide verified updates as rescue efforts progress.

“The spread of fake news and misinformation only creates unnecessary panic, heightens tension, and diverts limited security resources needed for ongoing operations,” he said.

Makinde’s Adviser Confirms Situation

Security Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde, Abayomi Fagbenro, also confirmed that the victims had not regained freedom.

Fagbenro spoke while responding to inquiries over social media reports claiming security operatives had rescued the abducted teachers and students.

Security agencies have continued operations across the area as families await the safe return of the victims.
