Gumi Denies Reports Linking Him to Banditry Support

Cleric Rejects Online Claims

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has distanced himself from reports linking him to support for banditry in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna, Gumi described the materials circulating online as fake and manipulated.

He said certain individuals and groups created the reports to promote ethnic and sectional interests.

Comments on Insecurity Misrepresented

Gumi said some of his media interviews and public lectures had been twisted.

According to him, internet content creators misrepresented his comments on insecurity.

He said such actions aimed to attract sensational headlines and online traffic.

Therefore, he urged the public to avoid false narratives tied to his name.

Gumi Rejects Support for Banditry

The cleric said he had never supported or justified banditry.

He stressed that any video, message, or written statement suggesting otherwise did not come from him.

He also rejected any indirect claims linking him to advocacy for violent crimes.

Calls for Public Caution

Meanwhile, Gumi urged media organisations, government agencies, and the public to ignore misleading materials.

He said people should verify information before sharing content online.

This, he noted, would help reduce misinformation and confusion.

Warns Against False Publications

Gumi warned that legal action could follow against anyone spreading falsehoods in his name.

He said individuals or groups who continue such actions would face consequences under the law.

As a result, he urged those behind the reports to stop circulating fabricated claims.

Calls for Lasting Security Solutions

The cleric also expressed hope that Nigeria would overcome its security crisis.

He said victims of violence should find comfort in the efforts to restore peace.

In addition, he linked insecurity to poverty, ignorance, and social injustice.

He called for long-term solutions to address the country’s security challenges.

Reaffirms Loyalty to Nigeria

Gumi reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria.

He described the country as a nation with strong potential despite its challenges.

Ultimately, he urged unity and collective action to end insecurity.
