Cesc Fabregas guided Como into the UEFA Champions League after a dramatic final day in Serie A.
Como 1907 secured a historic first-ever UEFA Champions League qualification with a 4-1 victory over US Cremonese on the final day of the Serie A season.
Managed by Cesc Fabregas, Como finished fourth after rivals AC Milan lost 2-1 to Cagliari Calcio. The result also confirmed Cremonese’s relegation to Serie B.
Goals from Jesus Rodriguez, Tasos Douvikas and Lucas da Cunha sealed the win in a heated match that saw three Cremonese players sent off after a controversial penalty decision. Former England striker Jamie Vardy also won a penalty during the game.
Fabregas praised his young squad after the final whistle, saying the achievement ranked among the greatest moments of his career. Most of Como’s players are under the age of 23.
The final-day drama also saw Juventus FC miss out on Champions League qualification, while AS Roma secured third place with a win over Hellas Verona FC.
