FRSC Begins Safety Operation Ahead of Sallah
The Kano State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has deployed 1,889 personnel for a special patrol ahead of Eid-el-Kabir. The exercise aims to improve road safety across the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, confirmed the deployment in a statement on Sunday. He said the operation includes regular officers and special marshals.
According to FRSC, the patrol started on May 25 and will end on May 31, 2026. The exercise comes as traffic increases during the festive period.
Command Targets Road Crashes and Traffic Offences
Sector Commander Idris Lawal said the patrol seeks to reduce crashes, deaths, and traffic congestion. He added that officers have moved to critical routes and flashpoints.
FRSC deployed 24 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, one tow truck, and two motorcycles. The command also positioned radar guns, breathalysers, and traffic control tools.
Lawal directed Unit Commanders and the 44 Local Government Station Officers to maintain full patrol coverage.
Emergency Teams on Full Alert
The patrol will focus on common traffic offences. These include speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, and phone use while driving.
Officers will also check faulty vehicles, expired tyres, worn-out tyres, and passenger manifest violations.
FRSC said mobile courts will remain active across Kano. The aim is to ensure quick prosecution of offenders.
Emergency rescue teams also remain on alert for road crashes and other highway emergencies.
Patrol to Run 24 Hours
The operation will run in shifts. This will provide 24-hour patrol and rescue coverage.
Special night rescue teams have also moved to strategic locations. They will respond to emergencies after dark.
Motorists Asked to Obey Traffic Rules
FRSC urged motorists to remain patient and disciplined. It warned against speeding and reckless overtaking.
The command also asked road users to follow traffic regulations at all times. Unsafe driving, it said, can endanger lives and property.
Residents were encouraged to cooperate with officers during the exercise. FRSC also asked the public to use the toll-free number 122 to report emergencies.
FRSC Reaffirms Commitment to Safe Roads
Lawal said the Corps remains committed to safer roads during and after the festive season. He also wished Muslim faithful and Kano residents a peaceful and crash-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Importance of Eid-el-Kabir
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Eid al-Adha, is one of Islam’s major celebrations. The festival marks Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to Allah before a ram replaced his son as sacrifice.
