Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says opposition parties are too busy fighting one another instead of confronting the ruling party.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Yilwatda said the crisis within opposition parties confirms earlier predictions of internal implosion.
“In the last three weeks, APC is not fighting ADC or NDC,” he said.
“It is NDC versus ADC, or ADC versus NDC.”
The APC chairman said he had watched exchanges and attacks between members of the opposition parties.
“I watched the videos and I laughed,” he said.
“The self-implosion is in the opposition rather than in APC.”
Yilwatda said he had earlier warned that opposition parties would eventually run into internal crises.
“I told you that there will be implosion in the opposition,” he said.
Asked whether the APC was orchestrating the divisions within opposition parties, the chairman denied direct involvement but admitted he would not mind politically benefiting from it.
“No, no, no, no, I can’t,” he said.
“But I’ll be happy if I can do it. That’s my job.”
According to him, the role of the ruling party is to weaken the opposition politically.
“If you oppose me, what’s my job?” he asked.
“So stop the opposition.”
When asked if “all is fair in war”, Yilwatda replied: “Either by biting or by using dagger.”
