Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to remain patient and prayerful, saying governments at all levels are working to ease the suffering of citizens.
Speaking in an Eid-el-Kabir message, Shettima called for peace, tolerance and maturity in political engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.
“There is a need for maturity, forbearance, and generosity of spirit in our political interactions,” he said.
The vice-president said Nigerians must focus on unity rather than division.
“What binds us together surpasses whatever divides us,” he said.
Shettima also referenced ongoing global tensions, including the conflict in the Middle East, which he said has worsened living conditions across the world.
“The world is celebrating in turmoil occasioned by the war in the Middle East,” he said.
“The cost of living indices globally has risen.”
He appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience as the government works to address economic hardship.
“I wish to call on Nigerians to exercise patience and tolerance,” he said.
“Governments at all levels are poised to ameliorate the sufferings of the Nigerian people.”
The vice-president also urged citizens to pray for peace in Nigeria and across West Africa.
“Let there be peace in the land,” he said.
“Let’s pray for peace not only in Borno, but in all the nooks and crannies of this country, in the Sahel zone of West Africa and in the world at large.”
