US Vice President JD Vance says ongoing talks with Iran could lead to a deal to stop nuclear weapons development and ease Middle East tensions.
US Vice President JD Vance said he is “extremely hopeful” Iran will agree to abandon any effort to develop nuclear weapons as negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue.
Speaking in an interview with NBC News, Vance said the biggest challenge is securing a monitoring system strong enough to ensure Iran does not break a future agreement. He added that his Christian faith and “just war” beliefs have influenced his approach to the conflict.
The remarks came after Iran accused the United States of violating a ceasefire following recent American “self-defense” strikes on Iranian targets. Despite the tensions, talks between US and Iranian officials continued in Doha with mediation from Qatar.
Officials say both sides are discussing an initial agreement that could help reopen the Strait of Hormuz and create room for broader nuclear negotiations. Iran is also reportedly seeking the release of frozen assets as part of the talks.
Disagreements over Hezbollah and regional security remain major obstacles, but both sides continue to pursue a diplomatic breakthrough.
