Education minister Alausa promises safe return of abducted Oyo schoolchildren

Tunji Alausa, the minister of education, has condemned the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo and Borno states, assuring Nigerians that the federal government is working to secure the safe return of all the victims.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the minister described the attacks as tragic and unacceptable.

The statement followed the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire LGA of Oyo state and Askira/Uba LGA of Borno state.

“The Federal Ministry of Education condemns the abduction of students in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State,” the statement reads.

Alausa said attacks on schools threaten the future of the country.

“Attacks on schools and students are attacks on Nigeria’s future,” he said.

The minister assured families of the victims that the government was working with security agencies to rescue the abducted children.

“No child should face fear or violence in pursuit of education,” he said.

“Government remains committed to securing schools and protecting learners nationwide.”

Alausa said the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu would continue strengthening school security across the country.

According to him, the government is improving surveillance systems, emergency response mechanisms and implementation of the national policy on safety, security and violence-free schools.

The minister also urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation while rescue efforts continue.

It added that the federal government stands in solidarity with affected families and the governments of Oyo and Borno states.
