Tennis legend Serena Williams could make a surprise return to professional tennis at Queen’s Club next month.
Serena Williams is reportedly in discussions about returning to competitive tennis four years after stepping away from the sport. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion is considering playing doubles at the WTA 500 event at Queen’s Club in June.
No final agreement has been reached, but the 44-year-old is eligible to return after re-entering the anti-doping testing pool earlier this year. Tournament organisers still need to award her a wildcard entry for the grass-court event, which begins on 8 June.
Reports suggest Williams could partner 19-year-old Canadian player Victoria Mboko in the doubles competition, although this is not yet confirmed. The tournament comes just weeks before Wimbledon Championships, where Williams won seven singles titles and seven doubles titles.
Williams last played professionally at the 2022 US Open, where she said she was “evolving away” from tennis rather than retiring. Since then, speculation about a comeback has grown following interviews about her fitness, weight loss and marathon training.
The potential return would mark one of the biggest comeback stories in modern tennis and could produce another iconic moment.
