Mauricio Pochettino holds initial talks with AC Milan

AC Milan are exploring the possibility of appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager.

Mauricio Pochettino has held initial talks with AC Milan over becoming the next manager following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri.

The 54-year-old is currently managing the United States men’s national soccer team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but his contract is due to expire after the tournament.

Pochettino’s immediate focus remains the World Cup, which will be hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico. However, a return to club football is understood to interest the former Tottenham and Chelsea manager.

His last club role came at Chelsea F.C. during the 2023-24 season, where he guided the club to a sixth-place Premier League finish and the Carabao Cup final.

Before Chelsea, Pochettino managed Paris Saint-Germain F.C., winning the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup. He also led Tottenham Hotspur F.C. to the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.

AC Milan parted ways with Allegri after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League for a second consecutive season. The Italian side finished fifth in Serie A after a final-day defeat to Cagliari. This was only good enough for a Europa League spot.

Pochettino is now emerging as one of the leading candidates to lead Milan into a crucial rebuilding phase.
