Ekiti has launched fresh security operations to prevent kidnappers and bandits from gaining a foothold in the state.
The Ekiti State Government has intensified security measures across its border communities as kidnappings, bandit attacks and killings continue to rise in neighbouring states. Security agencies have commenced the second phase of a large-scale bush-combing operation aimed at protecting residents and preventing criminal groups from entering the state.
The operation involves personnel from the police, military, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps and local vigilantes. Authorities say the exercise includes forest clearance, raids on criminal hideouts and increased surveillance along key entry points.
The renewed security push follows the April 28 attack on a Christ Apostolic Church crusade in Eda Oniyo, where armed bandits killed a pastor and abducted about 15 worshippers. Security agencies say efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims and dismantle criminal networks operating around the state’s borders.
Ekiti officials maintain that the state remains one of the safest in the Southwest and have pledged to sustain operations to keep communities secure.
