Aide Raises Alarm Over Viral Video
Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, has criticised comedian and content creator Nasboi. The criticism followed a video he posted online. The aide said the clip was capable of causing fear.
In a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Olusegun made the allegation. He said the video was misleading and wrongly framed.
Claim Links Footage to Benin Republic
According to Olusegun, the footage was sourced from a page online. The page reportedly identified the individuals as terrorists from the Republic of Benin.
Therefore, he insisted the video had no link to Nigeria. He also said it should not have been presented in a way that could alarm the public.
“The video you posted was clearly quoted from a page that says these are Beninese terrorists,” he wrote.
Moreover, he stressed that the clip should not be tied to Nigeria’s security situation.
Aide Condemns Spread of Fear
Furthermore, the presidential aide warned against sharing content that spreads panic. He urged Nasboi to use his platform more responsibly.
“You cannot continue to intentionally use your page to spread fear,” he stated.
In addition, he described the act as irresponsible. He also urged better judgment in future posts.
No Further Context Provided
However, Olusegun did not give details on when the video first appeared online. He also did not identify the original uploader.
Meanwhile, Nasboi has not responded publicly to the allegation as of the time of this report.
Uncertainty Over Footage Origin
Still, the origin of the video has not been independently verified. Although similar militant clips have emerged in the Sahel region, confirmation remains unclear.
Regional Security Context
Recently, Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an al-Qaeda-linked group, claimed an attack in Benin Republic. The incident reportedly occurred near the Burkina Faso border around May 25.
Subsequently, the group released footage of the assault. It claimed responsibility for killing soldiers and seizing weapons.
Nevertheless, authorities continue to assess the situation as regional insecurity spreads across West Africa.
