Gunmen abduct four residents, kill vigilante in Abuja

Armed attackers struck a community in Abuja’s Kubwa area, leaving one vigilante dead and four residents missing.

Gunmen have abducted four residents and killed a vigilante during an attack on the Byazhin area of Kubwa in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Residents said the attackers stormed the community in the early hours of Thursday. According to eyewitness accounts, the armed men, believed to be about 28 in number, invaded the area and took four people into a nearby forest. A vigilante member providing security for the community was reportedly shot from behind and later died from his injuries.

A security source confirmed the incident and said the slain vigilante had been buried. The source added that security agencies, including the military, police and local vigilantes, have launched a search-and-rescue operation to locate the abducted victims and track down the attackers.

The Byazhin area of Kubwa has witnessed growing security concerns in recent months, with residents calling for stronger protection measures. Efforts to obtain official comments from the FCT Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

Security operatives say efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims and restore calm in the affected community.
