Troops successfully defended a military base in Borno despite suffering casualties during a pre-dawn terrorist assault.
Five soldiers and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed after terrorists attacked a military base in Borno State, according to Operation HADIN KAI.
The military said the terrorists launched the attack around 3:00 a.m., using poor weather conditions as cover in an attempt to breach parts of the base. Troops engaged the attackers and successfully repelled the assault.
The military confirmed that injured personnel were airlifted for medical treatment and are currently in stable condition.
Despite the casualties, troops maintained control of the base and continued clearance operations in the surrounding area.
Operation HADIN KAI described the failed attack as a sign of growing desperation among terrorist groups facing sustained military pressure.
Additional troops and combat assets have since been deployed to strengthen security operations and protect communities in the region.
Military authorities say operations are ongoing as security forces continue efforts to dismantle terrorist networks across North-East Nigeria.
