Job Seeker Rejects ₦250,000 Offer After HR Demands Monthly Cut From Salary

Applicant Walks Away From Job Opportunity

A Nigerian lady has revealed why her sister declined a job offer in Lagos despite the attractive benefits attached to the role.

According to her account, the applicant withdrew from the recruitment process after an HR officer allegedly demanded a share of her future salary.

The offer reportedly came with a monthly salary of ₦250,000 and free accommodation.

However, the unexpected condition raised concerns and ultimately influenced the applicant’s decision.

HR Officer Allegedly Requested Salary Commission

The incident surfaced after a social media user, identified as @itzchristunique, shared the story online.

According to her, the HR officer worked at the company and had previously known her sister.

Before the interview stage, the recruiter allegedly requested ₦50,000 monthly from the applicant’s salary for six months.

Consequently, the total amount demanded would have reached ₦300,000.

The social media user claimed the HR officer described the payment as compensation for helping to secure the job opportunity.

Condition Reportedly Raised Concerns

The applicant reportedly questioned the arrangement because she had not yet secured the position.

In addition, the recruiter allegedly insisted on reaching an agreement before allowing her to proceed with the interview.

As a result, the job seeker decided not to continue with the process.

The development has since sparked conversations about ethics in recruitment and workplace practices.

Social Media Users React

Meanwhile, the story generated mixed reactions across social media platforms.

Some users argued that the applicant should have accepted the offer since payment would only begin after employment.

Others, however, criticised the alleged demand and described it as inappropriate.

One user, @Medexico, wrote that he would have accepted the offer because payment depended on securing the job.

Similarly, @lawson4uall described the arrangement as better than situations where applicants pay upfront and receive nothing.

In contrast, @BlessingCh73232 commended the applicant for rejecting the proposal and standing her ground.

Debate Over Recruitment Ethics Continues

The incident has renewed discussions about transparency in recruitment processes.

While some people focused on the financial benefits attached to the role, others questioned the fairness of requesting personal commissions from job applicants.

Consequently, the story continues to attract attention online as users share differing opinions on the matter.
