Daddy Freeze Reveals Why He Left Alex Ekubo’s Service of Songs

Daddy Freeze has revealed why he walked out of Alex Ekubo’s service of songs, saying the event felt more like a concert than a solemn memorial.

Daddy Freeze has opened up about why he walked out of the service of songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo. Speaking during an Instagram Live session, the media personality said he was uncomfortable with the direction the event took after popular gospel singer Mercy Chinwo stepped on stage.

According to him, the atmosphere changed from a solemn memorial gathering to what felt like a full music concert. Daddy Freeze argued that a service of songs should focus on reflection, comfort, and remembrance. He questioned the choice of energetic worship songs and said softer music would have been more appropriate for the occasion.

Again, he added that hymns could have created a calmer and more emotional atmosphere for family, friends, and guests mourning the actor. He also raised concerns about the number of guest artistes who participated in the worship sessions. In his view, traditional memorial events should remain simple and centred on honouring the deceased.

Recall that the Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40. His family confirmed that he died after a private battle with metastatic kidney cancer.

While many people online have shared mixed reactions to his comments, Daddy Freeze insists that funeral gatherings should maintain a respectful and peaceful mood rather than feel like a live concert performance.
