‘Nigerians should boycott South Africa’ — Air Peace CEO Onyema

Allen Onyema

Allen Onyema, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Air Peace, has called on Nigerians to boycott South Africa over repeated attacks on foreign nationals.

Onyema spoke during an exclusive interview on Arise Television.

Condemns attacks on Nigerians

The Air Peace boss criticised recurring attacks on Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa.

He accused South African authorities of failing to stop the violence.

“I totally agree that there should be a stop to this foolishness,” he said.

“I don’t understand how South Africa suddenly lacks the police, military and security agencies to stop these attacks.”

According to him, attackers often target foreigners, question their immigration status and force them out of their homes and businesses.

‘Nigerians contribute to their economy’

Furthermore, Onyema said many Nigerians invest their own money in South Africa and create economic value.

He argued that migrants should not be blamed for the country’s challenges.

“He brought money from Nigeria and opened a shop in your country,” he said.

“He is helping your country and helping your people.”

He also accused some South Africans of blaming foreigners for domestic problems.

Backs non-violent retaliation

Meanwhile, Onyema supported calls for Nigeria to respond to the attacks.

However, he rejected violence or attacks on South Africans living in Nigeria.

“I don’t want Nigerians to go to the streets and attack any South Africans,” he said.

“Nigerians are not like that.”

He also opposed shutting down South African businesses operating in Nigeria.

According to him, many Nigerians work for or own shares in those companies.

Calls for boycott

Instead, Onyema urged Nigerians to withdraw their economic support for South Africa.

He asked citizens to avoid investing in the country.

“The kind of retaliation I want is for Nigerians to boycott South Africa,” he said.

“Don’t invest in that country.”

“If they want to invest in our country, let them bring their money and invest here.”

He described an economic boycott as the most effective form of non-violent protest.

“Boycott South Africa,” Onyema said.
