Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charly Boy has shared fresh thoughts about his long marriage. He spoke during a Yanga FM interview. The music star said 48 years of marriage feels both deep and repetitive. His comments quickly sparked online reactions across Nigeria.
He admitted that staying with one partner for decades can feel monotonous. He used a food comparison to explain his point clearly. “I’ve been married to one woman for 48 years. It is very boring,” he said. “Imagine eating the same egusi for years, it’s boring now.” He also referenced a popular saying that long-term familiarity can feel safer than starting over.
Despite the boredom comment, he stressed that long marriages need patience and constant adjustment. According to him, no relationship stays perfect forever. He noted that couples must keep learning how to manage each other. “All marriages are management, including my own,” he explained. “Me and my wife be like Tom and Jerry. We dey quarrel every day and we will continue to dey quarrel and settle am.”
He further explained that disagreements are normal in marriage. Charly Boy said arguments come often but do not end the relationship. Instead, they help both partners understand each other better over time. He added the popular saying, “the devil you know is better than the one you don’t know,” to describe why many people still stay committed in long marriages.
