Court sentences three to death for terrorism and arms trafficking

A Nigerian court has handed down death sentences to three men convicted of terrorism-related offences and illegal arms trafficking.

A High Court in Sokoto State has sentenced three men, including a Nigerien national, to death by hanging after finding them guilty of terrorism and arms proliferation charges.

The convicts — Yusuf Muhammad, also known as Sallau, Jabbi Alhaji Yalle, and Kabiru Muhammad — were arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) Counter Terrorism Unit on June 13, 2025. Prosecutors linked them to cross-border arms trafficking and terrorist activities.

Justice Muhammad Nuraddeen Bello of High Court No. 23 delivered the judgment in case SS/45c/2026. The court also ordered that all money and exhibits recovered from the defendants be forfeited to the Federal Government.

The ruling comes weeks after a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced five men connected to the 2025 attack on St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, to 25 years in prison for terrorism-related offences.

The DSS says the convictions are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and illegal arms trafficking operations across Nigeria.
