Atiku Appoints Kenneth Okonkwo as Campaign Spokesperson Ahead of 2027 Election

Atiku Abubakar appoints Kenneth Okonkwo as his spokesperson ahead of the 2027 election.

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has appointed actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his new spokesperson. The announcement came on Thursday through Okonkwo’s official X account.

The appointment comes as the ADC continues preparations for the 2027 presidential election. Interestingly, the decision follows weeks after Okonkwo openly criticised the party’s choice of vice-presidential candidate.

Reacting to the appointment, Okonkwo thanked Atiku for trusting him with the responsibility. He also gave glory to God for the opportunity.

“I give God all the glory for being appointed by His Excellency Atiku Abubakar as his spokesperson. I thank His Excellency for the immense confidence reposed in me,” he wrote.

He added that Atiku prefers dialogue instead of holding grudges.

“Rather than take offence at associates for expressing genuine reservations about any action taken, His Excellency always opts for dialogue and compromise that engender solutions to problems.”

Furthermore, Okonkwo revealed that he met with Atiku and other ADC leaders before accepting the role. According to him, the discussions focused on protecting the political interests of the South-East. He said the talks considered the Electoral Act, 2026, and current political realities.

“At a dialogue with His Excellency and other well-meaning members of the African Democratic Congress, the interests of the South-East were discussed and guaranteed within the existing challenges posed by the Electoral Act, 2026, and the realities on the ground,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Okonkwo appreciated Dr. Kashim Imam, former ADC National Chairman Ralphs Nwosu, and Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Dr. Ekene Onwuka, for supporting the party’s growth. He also thanked his family, friends, and supporters for standing by him.

“I still covet your prayers for wisdom, courage, provision and protection needed to carry out this challenging responsibility, which will usher in a glorious and great Nigeria,” he added.

The appointment signals a fresh chapter for both Atiku and the ADC as the race toward the 2027 general election gathers momentum.
