Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed reports claiming he was offered ₦500 billion to contest the 2027 presidential election against Peter Obi to split votes in the South-South.
Jonathan described the report as false and urged Nigerians to disregard what he called a fabricated publication.
Jonathan Rejects Viral Claim
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Ikechukwu Eze, the former president said he never made such a claim.
He insisted that the report lacked credibility and failed to provide basic details to support the allegation.
“The publication is entirely false and baseless. It is a fabricated report designed to mislead the public and drag the former president into unnecessary political controversy.”
Aide Questions Report’s Credibility
Jonathan’s media aide said the publication did not state where or when the alleged statement was made.
He also noted that the report failed to identify those who allegedly offered the money or anyone who witnessed the conversation.
According to him, the story did not meet the basic standards of responsible journalism.
Calls for Caution
The former president urged Nigerians to verify sensational political stories before sharing them.
He warned that false reports often increase during election seasons and can mislead the public.
Jonathan’s spokesman said citizens should rely on credible sources for political information.
2027 Political Activities Gather Momentum
The clarification comes as political consultations and speculation continue ahead of the 2027 general election.
Several reports have linked prominent political figures, including Jonathan and Peter Obi, to different political scenarios as parties prepare for the next presidential race.
