Charles De Ketelaere scored twice as Belgium ended the United States’ World Cup campaign with a dominant last-16 victory.
Belgium defeated the United States 4-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup round of 16, with Charles De Ketelaere scoring twice to inspire the Red Devils to the quarter-finals. Hans Vanaken and substitute Romelu Lukaku also found the net as Belgium outclassed the tournament co-hosts.
Belgium took an early lead through De Ketelaere before Malik Tillman equalised for the USA with a deflected free-kick. However, De Ketelaere restored Belgium’s advantage just two minutes later, Vanaken capitalised on a goalkeeping error after the break, and Lukaku sealed the win in stoppage time.
The defeat ended the United States’ World Cup run despite the return of striker Folarin Balogun, whose suspension had been controversially suspended by FIFA before the match. Belgium, meanwhile, continued their impressive knockout form under coach Rudi Garcia.
Belgium will face Spain in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals after reaching the last eight for the third time in their last four World Cup appearances.
