Two Greek-American tourists were injured in a knife attack outside the Acropolis Museum in Athens, Greece, on Tuesday morning, police said.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:05 a.m., shortly after the museum opened to visitors.
According to authorities, a man armed with a knife had been threatening pedestrians near the museum entrance before the attack. A bystander alerted emergency services after witnessing the suspect’s behaviour.
Couple Hospitalised, Suspect Arrested
Before police arrived, the attacker stabbed a 53-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman.
The male victim suffered severe blood loss and required urgent medical treatment, while the woman sustained minor injuries to her hands and legs.
Authorities said both victims were taken to hospital and are in stable condition. Police arrested a 60-year-old suspect at the scene after officers from the Hellenic Police’s rapid-response unit and the Athens Police Directorate disarmed and detained him.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the attack. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to gather evidence and question the suspect.
