The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its recruitment portal for the 2026 employment exercise, inviting suitably qualified Nigerians to apply for entry-level positions across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.
The commission opened the application portal on Monday, July 20, and will close it on Monday, July 27, according to a notice published on its website on Tuesday.
INEC said the recruitment exercise will strengthen its capacity in electoral administration, voter registration, data management and election logistics. The commission added that the exercise would help it discharge its constitutional responsibilities more effectively.
Applicants must apply online
Interested applicants should apply through the INEC recruitment portal.
The commission directs applicants to create an account, complete the online application form and upload all required credentials. However, INEC stressed that the application process is free of charge.
The commission also warned applicants against submitting false information or forged documents. It said it would disqualify anyone who violates the rules and could also prosecute offenders.
INEC lists available vacancies
INEC grouped the vacancies into three cadres covering Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.
Professional Cadre (Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12)
The available positions include Accountant, Clinical Officer, Lawyer, ICT Officer, Engineer and Quantity Surveyor.
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognised institution. Where necessary, candidates should also hold a master’s degree in a relevant field.
In addition, applicants must possess relevant professional certifications such as NBA, COREN, NSE, NIQS, ICAN, ANAN or CPN. They must also have at least two years of post-qualification experience, an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and strong analytical, communication, problem-solving and ICT skills.
Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) – Grade Level 08
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma or an equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences.
They must also present an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate. In addition, candidates should have good knowledge of data management, record keeping and Microsoft Office applications.
Executive Officer (Registration Officer) – Grade Level 07
Applicants must possess a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or its equivalent from a recognised institution.
They should also demonstrate knowledge of computer operations, data management, communication and organisational skills.
General requirements
INEC said every applicant must satisfy several conditions before applying.
Applicants must present a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the chairman or secretary of their local government. They must also obtain certification from a government medical officer confirming that they are physically and mentally fit.
In addition, applicants must not be older than 35 years at the time of application. They must have good character, no criminal conviction and a willingness to serve in any part of the country.
The commission also expects applicants to demonstrate integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.
How to apply
Interested applicants should visit the INEC recruitment portal and create an applicant account with their personal details, email address and National Identification Number.
Next, they should verify their email address, sign in and select their preferred cadre and vacancy. They should then upload all required documents, including a passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O’Level result, degree, HND, ND or NCE certificate, local government identification certificate and NYSC certificate where applicable.
Applicants should carefully review every entry before submitting the application online. However, INEC noted that applicants cannot change their selected vacancy after submission.
The commission added that it would invite only shortlisted candidates to the next stage of the recruitment exercise.
