Abducted Kebbi High Court Judge Regains Freedom After One Week in Captivity

Justice Faruku Bunza, the Kebbi State High Court judge who was abducted a week ago, has regained his freedom and returned home safely.

The development was confirmed on Monday by the Kebbi State Police Command, which said the judge’s release had also been verified by his family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice.

Police spokesperson Bashir Usman disclosed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom during the period of captivity. However, he said no money was paid for the judge’s release, in line with the Command’s policy against ransom payments.

The police did not disclose the circumstances surrounding Bunza’s release. However, they said investigations have been intensified to identify and arrest those responsible for the abduction.

Security agencies are continuing efforts to track down the suspects and ensure they face prosecution. The Command also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.

It assured residents that any information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.

Police further thanked residents and other security agencies for their cooperation and support throughout the operation. Further describing their assistance as valuable to ongoing security efforts.
