Governor Abba Yusuf has approved more than ₦19 billion for major Kano State projects designed to improve living standards and boost economic growth across the state.
The approval followed a meeting of the Kano State Executive Council chaired by the governor. Commissioner for Information and Internal Strategy, Ibrahim Waiya, briefed reporters on Sunday in Kano. He explained that the new funds would focus on education, healthcare, water, works, power, and renewable energy.
Education and Health at the Heart of Kano State Projects
Mr. Waiya said the council approved ₦5 billion for education. The funds will clear old debts and support school renovations. In addition, ₦274 million will upgrade hospitals and health centers across Kano State. Furthermore, ₦3.4 billion will be used to expand access to clean water under the Kano State projects initiative.
The commissioner noted that these investments aim to improve access to quality education and healthcare, which are key to the state’s human development goals. He added that the projects would create more jobs for local contractors and youth.
Infrastructure and Energy Development in Kano State
According to Mr. Waiya, ₦10 billion will go toward road construction, flood control, and renovation works. Moreover, the council approved new housing policies and a plan to build more low-cost homes.
In the energy sector, the council endorsed the acquisition of majority shares in KEDCO and adopted the Kano State Electricity Policy. These steps, he said, will strengthen power supply, attract investors, and support the government’s renewable energy drive.
Governor Yusuf Commended for Leadership
Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf has received several national awards for his leadership and commitment to service delivery. His administration, observers say, has focused on projects that touch the lives of ordinary citizens.
