The First Lady of Zamfara State, Hurriya Lawal, recently launched an advocacy campaign on routine immunisation at the Doctor Karma State Primary Healthcare Centre in Tudun Wada, Gusau. She emphasized that immunisation is more than a health intervention; it is “a shield of protection” and “an expression of love.”
Protecting Children’s Health
Lawal explained, “When we vaccinate our children, we are safeguarding their future. Every mother wants her child to learn, play, and grow strong. That hope begins with good health.” She stressed the importance of giving all vaccines from birth to ensure full protection.
Progress and Ongoing Challenges in Zamfara
The First Lady highlighted recent progress in the state. For instance, more mothers now visit primary healthcare centres, and more babies are receiving vaccines. In addition, midwives and nurses are reaching remote communities, working tirelessly to protect children.
However, she warned that challenges remain. “Some children have not received any vaccines. These zero-dose children are real babies in our villages. Nevertheless, they can be protected if their mothers are informed, encouraged, and guided,” Lawal said.
Appreciation for Health Workers
Moreover, Lawal praised the dedication of health workers, calling them the “true pillars of our communities.” She urged everyone to continue supporting immunisation efforts to ensure every child in Zamfara grows up healthy and protected.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the campaign reinforces the state government’s commitment to child health and preventive care. By increasing awareness and accessibility of vaccines, Zamfara aims to safeguard the health of its youngest residents and strengthen public confidence in routine immunisation programs.
