
The Uzodimma appointment of Prof. Aloysius Chijioke Onyeka as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Innovation, Science and Technology, Omuma (UISTO) has been confirmed. The decision took effect from November 26. Moreover, the state described the appointment as a major step for Imo’s education sector.
The announcement came through a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, on Tuesday in Owerri. Meanwhile, UISTO secured its operational licence from the National Universities Commission in October, clearing the path for academic activities.
Former AIFUE, KOMU Leader Takes Charge
Prof. Onyeka previously served as Acting Vice-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education and as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University. Additionally, he hails from Okporo in Orlu Local Council and studied at the former Imo State University, Etiti, before earning postgraduate degrees from the University of Ibadan.
Governor Uzodimma described the Uzodimma appointment as a strategic decision for building a knowledge-based economy. Furthermore, the governor said the choice aligns with the state’s innovation agenda.
Onyeka’s Tech Contributions Highlighted
The statement also highlighted Prof. Onyeka’s work in educational technology. He pioneered Computer-Based Testing for JAMB and post-UTME screenings at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. Consequently, institutions improved processing and results delivery. He also created transcript and results software still in use today.
UISTO expressed confidence that his leadership will drive excellence and promote technological advancement. However, the statement added that the work ahead requires collaboration across education stakeholders.
UISTO Begins Admissions Via JAMB CAPS
The university confirmed that it is now live on the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). Now, it will participate in the 2025/2026 admissions cycle for UTME and Direct Entry candidates.
Prospective students can check admission status, manage offers, and complete clearance processes through the CAPS portal. Also, UISTO urged parents and applicants to stay updated through CAPS.
