The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 17 suspected drug peddlers and recovered 4,658 wraps of illicit drugs during coordinated operations across multiple local government areas in the state.
The arrests followed intelligence-led raids carried out in known drug-prone locations, according to a statement released on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, in Dutse.
According to the police, the operation formed part of a renewed onslaught against drug-related crimes and other criminal activities across Jigawa State.
Drugs Recovered Across Several LGAs
SP Adam said officers carried out the raids in Dutse, Guri, Gumel, Sara, Shuwarin, Sundimina, Kazaure, Malam-Madori, Ringim, Birnin Kudu, Kafin Hausa, and Taura local government areas.
“As part of our continued effort to rid Jigawa State of drugs and crime, we arrested 17 major drug peddling suspects,” he said. “In addition, we recovered 4,658 wraps of hard drugs.”
The police identified the principal suspect as Mutari Shu’aibu, a 20-year-old resident of Dutse Local Government Area. According to the command, officers caught him with large quantities of drugs meant for distribution.
Suspects Arraigned, Exhibits Documented
SP Adam confirmed that the police documented all recovered exhibits and would tender them in court. He added that authorities have already arraigned all the suspects for prosecution.
“Following discreet investigations, the command has arraigned all the suspects to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
Meanwhile, the police also recalled that on December 17, officers arrested seven suspects linked to armed robbery and theft across the state. During that operation, they recovered five motorcycles and other stolen items.
Police Vow Sustained Operations
The PPRO said the raids reflected the command’s commitment to protecting public safety and safeguarding young people from drug abuse.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, as assuring residents that the command would not relent in its fight against drug trafficking.
“These operations were intelligence-driven and precisely targeted,” Adam said. “Therefore, we will continue until we stamp out drug abuse across the state.”
Police Seek Public Support
The command urged residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information about suspicious activities in their communities.
According to the police, the fight against drugs requires collective responsibility and sustained cooperation between citizens and law enforcement.
“We remain fully committed to ensuring a safe, secure, and drug-free Jigawa State,” SP Adam said.
